The IMD SOLUTIONS INC team has a combined 50+ years of experience in the Medical Device Industry. Our leadership team members have built outstanding careers in every facet of the business including the development, marketing, research, engineering and commercialization of ground breaking, innovative patented Medical Devices.

The management team has relationships with a variety of physicians, surgeons, medical and business professionals worldwide.  These relationships are an integral part of the success of IMD.

Our team of Engineers and Medical consultants are passionate about their advancements in bringing GlucoGuard to market.  Many of our members have been touched personally by this issue and are excited to bring this technology to those in need.

Management

Zachary Smith

Founder and CEO

Zachary Smith is a results-oriented Biomedical Engineer with a Master’s from Arizona State University.
He has a strong background in leadership and a passion for applying engineering principles to solve complex problems.
Specifically, his passions lie in the treatment of diabetes, having witnessed its effects firsthand in his youngest brother, who is Type I diabetic.

Zachary has a track record of success in the military and private industry and is dedicated to ongoing personal and professional development.

He thrives in collaborative environments and consistently strives to be a dependable asset to his teams and colleagues.
He has strengths in project management, product and process design, and analytical thinking.

Dr. Stephen Weber, MD

Assistant Professor
JOHNS HOPKINS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

Dr. Stephen Weber, MD Assistant Professor John Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Weber did his undergraduate and medical school at University of Michigan, where he was an Alpha Omega scholar. His internship and residency was at University of California at Davis, where he was outstanding resident of the year on two occasions. He then studied in Basel, Switzerland with the A.O. group as the Jack Daniel’s Award recipient from this group, followed by a three month stint in Hassan, India as a volunteer performing polio surgery with Orthopedics Overseas. He then had the privilege of working with Dr. Richard Caspari completing an arthroscopy fellowship in 1986. Dr. Weber was in private practice with an active clinical research practice in Sacramento, California from 1986 until 2016, where he published numerous papers, clinical articles, and book chapters. He was team physician for Sacramento City College, and University of California at Davis, as well as covering the Sacramento Capitals tennis team, the Sacramento Steelheads, the World Pro Ski Tour, and the US Olympic trials. He is a reviewer and editor for numerous journals, including the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Assistant Editor, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, Assistant Editor, Techniques in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and Assistant Editor, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Editor for Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. He is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, where he has held numerous committee and teaching positions. In 2015 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and in 2016 he was awarded the Smith and Nephew/James C. Esch Award for Outstanding Clinical Research from the Arthroscopy Association of North America, in Boston. Dr. Weber previously worked at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a Medical Officer and Clinical Reviewer. He also works as an Independent regulatory consultant, evaluating and clearing orthopedic and related devices for the FDA and EU. He remains an avid tennis player and musician.

Bill Colone

Bill Colone is currently the CEO and Chairman of Single Pass, a new Orange County based start-up company developing a unique electrocautery device for use during deep tissue biopsy procedures. Bill formerly served as the CEO at Spinal Singularity, a seed stage medical device development company in San Clemente, CA. Under Mr. Colone, the company raised over $6.6 million in dilutive funding and over $5.1 million in non-dilutive funding for product development, clinical studies, and regulatory approvals. Prior to Spinal Singularity, he served as the VP of R&D for Direct Flow Medical until its sudden closure in November of 2017. He has over three decades of medical device development experience, including ten years as President of Endomed, until its sale in February 2005. Mr. Colone has vast knowledge of ePTFE and endovascular prostheses and is recognized for his contributions to endoluminal technology and vascular surgery. Prior to Direct Flow Medical, he served as Director of Research and Development, and later Director of Aortic Procedure Development, for Endologix. Mr. Colone directed the development of the Nellix Endovascular Aneurysm Sealing System through design completion, CE trial completion, CE Mark approval, and OUS commercial launch. He also contributed to the procedure development and training for the US IDE investigation centers leading to the fastest enrolled IDE trial for an EVAR device. Mr. Colone holds 13 US patents for medical devices with others pending. He also served as Director of Operations for IMPRA, Inc. (now Bard Peripheral Vascular) prior to founding Endomed. Mr. Colone holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University where he is a member of the ASU Advisory Committee for Chemical and Materials Engineering. Mr. Colone also served as an Associate Faculty Member at ASU from 2004 through 2007 and was a Founding Member and Board Member of the Arizona Technology Investor Forum.

Kunal Sur

Managing Partner, Arete | CEO & Founder- Stealth Start-Up

Kunal Sur is an experienced professional in the field of biomedical engineering, with a background in biotechnology and biochemical engineering. Currently serving as the Managing Partner at Arete Biosciences, Inc. Prior to these roles, Kunal held various leadership positions at Roche, GenMark Diagnostics, Quidel and Hospira. Kunal earned their PhD and MS in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a B. Tech in Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
